 winter competition result!                   

the dec2008/jan 2009 competition themed "winter" has now completed.  the winner with a photo called elsecar canal winter is terryg.  well done terry for a second competition win with a super photo (see below).  also commended were andrew fairclough's crisp morning in winter and justlinda's winter.  terrg wins a book - twentieth century photography, an excellent 750 page book. see all the entries HERE.  thanks to everyone who entered - the biggest entry yet for a competition!

 snow!                                                

we are just witnessing some of the heaviest snowfall in many years, and i thought it would be good to mark the occasions with some snow scenes. there are a few already there that i took, but i really want your shots too... the best shot featured will win a small prize, submit your photos before the end of feb to photography@fastmail.co.uk. here is one photo from my shoot in hoyland. HERE is a direct link to the snow gallery

 platts common request                    

i've had a request for old turn of the century photos of platts common.  mike smith is writing a book on a local man born in platts common in 1886.  Mike is after pictures of platts common from that period (1886 onwards), and would be interested if anyone has anything (pictures, old stories etc) he can use.  contact me at photography@fastmail.co.uk and i'll pass on to mike who can then contact you direct.

we have really started to build up the collection of vintage photos - as well as the photos from geoffrey howse's around hoyland books, we now have a great collection of birdwell/pilley photos from dawn johnson - great photo collection dawn!  please add to our collection with photos from other areas in our region, and as the gallery grows, i will split the vintage photos by area like the main photo part of the site.  send your old photos to photography@fastmail.co.uk . don't worry if you only have prints, lend them to me and i'll scan and return them back to you.

 feb competition - colour                  

the feb competition is now open for your entries!  the theme is colour, which means taking shots of anything you like (within the local area), that have an additional spice of colour in them, let your imagination run wild!  no heavy rules, anything goes as long as it is your own work, remember you can submit up to 3 photos per competition - send your entries to photography@fastmail.co.uk - early days, but if there are any entries, they will be HERE.
