 new vintage gallery

with images kindly supplied by bill stothard, we now have a new vintage gallery open with some very interesting shots of old hoyland and jump.  see all the new images HERE.  as bill says "My interest stems from the fact that my late mother – Annie Stothard (née Lodge) – originates from this area. She was born (in 1906) at Jump Hall Farm – later moving to Manor Farm, Barber St.,  Hoyland, along with 4 brothers and three sisters. All of her brothers & sisters (my Aunties  & Uncles) remained in the Hoyland area for the rest of their lives – all the men continuing the family tradition of farming in the local community. There are – among my mother’s effects – a number of postcards and photos relating to her early life in the Hoyland area at the beginning of the 20th century".   bill is interested in any additional information you might have about the photos and postcards - you can contact bill through me and i'll pass the messages on.  see bill's gallery HERE

 floods of 2007

it's nearly 2 years since the floods hit the area in June 2007... i think it will be interesting to gather our pictures of that time in a gallery - do you have some shots of elsecar or wombwell or anywhere else local that flooded and i'll put together a gallery for the start of june...  send your photos now to photography@fastmail.co.uk.

 pleas for info / assistance

from this months forum by a new member "I am new on here and think that is a great idea. I am interested in Hoyland & Wentworth in particular as I am doing my family tree and have ancestors who lived and worked at Wentworth House & my great grandfather was born at Hoyland. My great grandfather and his brother were grooms & coachmen and on one census they were living at Prospect Tower, Hoyland".  please go and add to the forum if you have memories of the family... also prospect tower i believe was another name used for hoyland lowe stand... so might be worth looking at that site too for further information.

last month mike smith wrote - "I am researching the life of a Hoyland man at present Thomas Boyle, born in Platts Common in 1886.  Have you any pictures of Platts Common from the mid 1880s to around 1920?  If you have, can we discuss please" - he added "The family members of the chap I am researching lived in Royal Oak Yard according to the census's of 1891, 1901 and 1911.  This was the Boyle family Father Patrick Boyle, Mother Ellen Boyle, Children, Thomas, John, Elizabeth, Mary, Catherine". if you can help, let me know and i'll pass it on to mike.

well, thats it for this issue.  i would welcome your feedback (reply to this e-mail or use the feedback options on the website) about any aspect of the site, new shop, forum, newsletter - anything, and of course i still want your pictures...!

keep looking and keep taking the photos!
