hoyland photos
newsletter 1 (SEPT 2008)
welcome to the first newletter for hoyland photos. in this issue you will find the following:-
barnsley chronicle mention
on august 22nd, the website featured in a front page article in the barnsley chronicle (hoyland edition). see HERE for a pdf of that page/story (adobe reader required to view)
new competition
a new monthly competition kicks off in september with the first theme being "old building". you ae able to submit up to 3 digital photos of anything you like as long as it has some reference to the locality and some link to the theme. you can even use your artistic licence/tools and create some artworks depicting the theme if that is your cup of tea. entries should be submitted to photography@fastmail.co.uk by no later than end of september (30th). the winer will receive a framed a4 print of their entry or an a4 print of their choice from the website (for copyright reasons that will have to be one of mine at the current time). so get snapping and join in the fun. the best entry (as judged by me this time) will get the prize, but all entries submitted will be shown in the appropriate competition gallery... see HERE for further details
forum
you may have noticed there is now a forum attached to the website. this will be a useful community site for discussing local topics of interest, as well as for buying and selling, publicising events, and discussion photography tips etc. the more you put in, the better it will get and the more you'll get back... see the forum HERE
your photos
don't be shy - come display your photos on the site - we'd all be interested to see them... choose some of your best and submit them to photography@fastmail.co.uk and they will be displayed in the galleries and on the your photos page.
vintage photos
its been suggested that we have a gallery for old photos of the area - great idea.... i don't have any of my own, but i would love to see those old shots of hoyland (old school on market street?), elsecar (colliery, elsecar by the sea etc), wentworth (see how much or little it has changed) etc. please submit any you might have to photography@fastmail.co.uk and i'll publish them on a gallery.
wel, thats it for the first issue. i would welcome your feedback (reply to this e-mail or use the feedback options on the website) about any aspect of the site, forum, newsletter - anything, and of course i want your pictures...!
all the best
