General
Hoyland Photos exists to showcase and represent the areas local to us within the global and local community. There is a lot of history and interest in the development of our part of South Yorkshire and we want to capture the essence of what the area has been and is, on this website.
The site is run by myself and I am pleased to say I have been joined by my good friend Dave Warren. We will maintain the site as enthusiastic volunteers.
How does the site pay for itself?
Well, it doesn't at this time. The website is not free to run and maintain and the competition prizes are sourced from my own pocket. I would welcome anyone who would like to sponsor the site or some of the competitions to get in touch. The only costs it will cover will be the actual site costs themselves (the website name, the hosting costs, the competition prizes etc). This is not a profit site - just a community resource.
If you would like to get in touch about sponsong the site (or doating towards the upkeep), then please contact me - Andy Harris on photography@fastmail.co.uk.
Galleries
What galleries will I find on Hoyland Photos?
You will find a variety of galleries here:-
We have area galleries - covering all the areas as detailed in the Hoyland Photos header banner. Also there are themed galleries covering weather events or specific new buildings (like the new Kirk Balk School as it builds). We also have a selection of vintage galleries featuring shots provided by local people or shown with author permission from books about the local area.
There are also competition galleries with generally a new competition every month - see the all competition page for links and competition titles that have been held.
How do I submit pictures to Hoyland Photos
The best way to submit photos is to attach them on e-mail to photography@fastmail.co.uk. Tell us a little about the subject and if it is for an area gallery or for one of the competitions. And within a few days it should be on the site for all to see.
The photos must be your own work and should be sized 800x600 pixels or bigger to show up well on the site.
Competitions
How do the competitions work on Hoyland Photos?
The competitons are usually run monthly and are themed to a particular subject - see the "all competitions" page for details of completed and open competitions. Use the links to go direct to the pages.
Generally the rules are very simple - all photos submitted must be your own work, relate to the local areas covered by Hoyland Photos and your entries must not exceed 3 photos for any individual competition.
